State laws matter, more than ever!
Because of state laws, 10,000 lives were saved from abortion in just 2 months after Roe was overturned.*
Now, in a Post-Roe era, it is crucial to march where state laws are made and in front of the elected lawmakers.
The March for Life Chicago is moving to Illinois’ capitol: Springfield.
The Move includes:
New Name: The March for Life Chicago is now the Illinois March for Life
New Location: The rally and march move from Chicago to Springfield, IL
New Day: Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
SAME MISSION: Save Midwestern Lives by marching for life in the public square!
Since 2013, the rally and march has served as a unifying event for the pro-life movement that grew through the Midwest. The 2023 move continues that unity as it is supported by weDignify, Illinois Right to Life, Lutheran Church Missouri—Synod, Wisconsin Right to Life, Illinois Knights of Columbus, and more!
Please see the FAQs for more details.

new City. New Day. SAME MISSION!

Springfield is Illinois’ state capitol.
In the last 6 years, lawmakers in Springfield passed the Repeal of Parental Notification (2021), the Reproductive Health Act, which allows abortion through all 9 months, removed health inspections of abortion clinics, and more (2019) and HB 40 Tax Payer Funding of Abortion (2017).
As a result, at least 4 regional abortion clinics have been built in IL near the border of WI, MO, & IN since 2018.
Recently, an abortion organization launched a bus to travel around the IL state border to offer abortions to those in neighboring states.
Illinois abortions are no longer concentrated in Chicago and no longer limited to just Illinois residents.
Illinois’ state laws are detrimental to preborn lives across the Midwest, so we have moved to march where those egregious laws were made.

Since 2013, the march’s vision has been to call upon religious, civic, and community leaders to renew every effort to build a nation that affirms the authentic dignity of women and men, the gift of children, and a culture dedicated to protecting life at every stage of development in law and love.
In order to call upon civic leaders in Springfield, the march needed to be on a weekday when state lawmakers are at the capitol.
During the legislative session, lawmakers are not in Springfield on Monday or Friday and are often traveling back to their district on Thursday afternoons.
That just leaves Tuesday or Wednesday.
Tuesday worked best for the majority of partner organizations.

The Illinois legislative session occurs in the Spring, so state lawmakers are usually in Springfield, IL in the month of March.
Rallying and marching when state lawmakers are present significantly increases the impact on lawmakers.
While the IL legislative session goes into April at times, this is not often the case during a presidential election year, such as 2024. During those years, the legislative session typically ends at the end of March.
Thus, the month of March is a consistent month to gather at the state capitol when lawmakers are in session working on and voting on laws.
